More Travels With Allen
Recently we were out to dinner at Santucci’s on Street Road in Warminster with neighbors, Stan and Roz. It’s a great spot with terrific pizza, flat breads, pasta and wings.
While we were eating Stan mentioned a theater, Music Mountain Theatre, located in Lambertville on RT 179. He and Roz attend regularly and are big fans. My interest was piqued and I decided to visit and get the full scoop. I thought, correctly I believe, that many of our readers would find it interesting.
In a very short paragraph … WOW! I don’t even know where to start.
The converted warehouse was modified by volunteers and opened in October. The cast is all volunteer and their programs are about as ambitious as I have ever seen. They have moved a great deal over the years from a small store front in New Hope to a larger location in Washington’s Crossing before finally finding their permanent home outside of Lambertville. Their building has seating for some two hundred and fifty people and adjacent work rooms for classes and workshops. This state-of-the-art facility has accommodations for the hearing impaired, sign language and for people with certain types of special needs. The entire nonprofit depends on donations, ticket sales and a variety of fundraising activities to keep it going.
The driving force behind this great spot is Ginny Brennan. She originally owned a restaurant in Doylestown for some twenty years before she decided to fulfill her lifelong dream and develop what’s become this multi-faceted art center and theater. She, along with her son and Mark Beckman have succeeded brilliantly.
The Music Mountain Theatre offers a comprehensive musical theater educational curriculum as well as high quality main stage and children’s theater productions throughout the year. They had twelve productions this year including Oklahoma, Grease, Godspell, Chorus Line and The Bad Seed to name but a few.
They offer free parking and handicap spaces and a ten-show pass for two hundred bucks that allows you to bring a friend with you free to any show. Their Children’s Theater is equally ambitious and affordable. A ten-show pass is just $70.00. Both subscriptions allow for free ticket exchanges.
It really is a bargain, great entertainment without the hassle of traffic and it’s …. if I am allowed to say … cheap! Like my description of the Bristol Riverside Theater that I love so very much, this is very enjoyable theater without great expense or travel. It can get you out of the house on Friday, Saturday or evenings when the curtain goes up. Maybe, after a visit or two, you may want to become a volunteer.
