Out & About with Linda
It’s a been a while since I stopped in at Palz Tap House.
And after this visit, I won’t wait so long for a repeat meal. Fun, delicious, hot, prompt and more, Palz has captured the heart (and appetite) of our greater community.
They say they have the “Best Happy Hour in Town.” It just might be true. We arrived at our seats around 5:30 so we could find out. $1 off all drinks and $6 appetizers. Sounds like a deal…it was.
No drinks for me, I was driving. But I could order a round of apps. Cheesesteak Eggrolls, Buffalo Chicken Eggrolls and Boneless Wings, all served with assorted dips. Delish! Hearty and abundant, each individual order could serve as your entree should you want. They can easily be shared… One single app would do the trick. Not bad!!
P.S. While we were enjoying our apps, we noticed the room was filling up with hungry diners and friendly chatter. It felt like a real neighborhood watering hole… Owner, Edwin Beza left the kitchen stopping at diners’ tables flashing his welcoming smile to say hello. Clearly, he was among friends and appreciative folk.
But back to our meal…the special for the evening was meatloaf served with mashed potatoes and fresh cut vegetables. Meatloaf?! Yup! We decided to check out this Special. We also ordered one of their special hamburgers and my favorite, Fish & Chips. (And wait ‘til we “talk” dessert.) Yes, a lot of food, but necessary to “tell the Palz Tap House story.”
The meatloaf arrived at our table, the heftiest of portions. Huge slices, placed next to the smoothest mashed potatoes, aligned with delicious, fresh cut vegetables….and not peas and carrots, but squash, carrots, zucchini not the usual bar-veggies. This was a portion that should be shared—or be prepared to take home your next evening’s meal or lunch! If you’re a meatloaf person, definitely check out this dish.
I loved the Fish & Chips. Served with winner fries, the fish was thick and white. And it was enrobed in a light, crisp casing. Perfect! The fries were thick and crunchy, but not greasy. I was a happy camper.
Our hamburger tasted like it had just come off a grill. We felt like we were eating something from our own outside barbecue grill. Cov- ered with onions, cheddar cheese and a multitude of other “sins,” it’s just what you would expect from a tap house that delivers a full menu of drinks. Served per our request, medium, this burger was cooked to perfection. Accompanied by perfect fries, I think it could satisfy any burger aficionado.
Our take-home boxes were filling up. Gianna, our charming server, was attentive and efficient. Giving us much needed recommen- dations for our menu selections, she also helped us keep our table orderly. I mean, we had A LOT of food on our table. It was quite a challenge to sample and enjoy, all at the same time!!
And then we asked her about dessert. Our stomachs were full, but I always feel dessert needs to be part of a successful “sampling.” She reviewed our options We chose one: Molten Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream, Chocolate Sauce and Whipped Cream. Impossible to finish but delightful to sample, it’s a dessert that’s rich and sweet, and one that can be shared, should be shared after a meal like ours! It did not disappoint. LOL!! Of course, this wasn’t something that could be packed up and brought home. We walked away from it, and the calories (!) at the end of our meal.
It’s clear, when we left Palz Tap House we were very satisfied diners. Had the evening been a little warmer, we would have enjoyed dining outside on their enclosed deck. They also have a full roster of events, monthly. Live music weekly, a car show, trivia, etc., Palz has stepped up its game making it a place of camaraderie and good food. Check it out and tell them we reminded you that a neighborhood place can often times bring you the best of times. Enjoy and Bon Appetit!
If you’ve ever searched for dynamite sweaters, special/unique tops, and more, you may have landed at The Sweater Mill on South York Road in Hatboro. A go-to spot for lady’s fine wear for 47 years, I stopped in for a visit to get an update on what’s happening inside this happening boutique.
Owner, Yvette Kornfeld, told me The Sweater Mill sells “Clothing You Wear.” That’s their mantra and that says it all! “Clothing You Wear.” Approaching this store, outside, you’ll see a rack filled with sweaters, shirts, etc. for men and women at marked-down prices. It gives you a sense of what you might see inside. Indeed, you might see a bargain before you even go through the front doors!! LOL!
Go through these doors and you’ll be surrounded by color and design and more color. The Sweater Mill is a happy place for women and men looking for that special piece for any occasion. It’s a place stocked with “better things at better prices for all ages.” (Another mantra from Yvette.)
Sweaters, jackets or toppers, pants, accessories, and dresses, you’ll find the latest of trends arranged meticulously for your consideration. And unlike some shopping experiences, customer service is always at the ready to help with size, fit and selection. with a smile. I saw some beautifully gossamer scarves and really funky pants.
Go to the back of the store and you’ll find an entire area devoted to sale merchandise. Not closeouts, or last season items, but current pieces reduced to allow for newer items. Dresses, tops, there’s quite a selection of sale opportunities.
A quick look-see around the boutique, jeans lined a corner of the shop all sizes, all colors, in the latest styles. And if you’ve followed what’s happening in today’s women’s wear you know JEANS is what’s happening. Go to The Sweater Mill, for selection and fit. And use their coupon.
If you’ve seen their ads, you know they are known for their coupon. Just take in their ad appearing on page 7 of this issue, and receive 17% off any item in the store. Big selection, big savings it’s a win-win opportunity!
Here’s a tip: their End-of-Season Sale is approaching. You’ll want to shop for Summer because not only will the prices be reduced, but when the shop re-opens after a summer break in July, Fall Fashions will have arrived. It could be a missed opportunity for that perfect beach cover-up or late night sweater for down the shore, or dress for that neighbor’s cocktail party. Now’s the time to freshen up your wardrobe for warmer weather.
The Sweater Mill is iconic in our greater community. Known for quality, fashion, and customer service it’s that place for “clothing you wear.” That’s their message according to its owner and to the many customers who’ve shopped there for these many years. Serving all ages, perhaps it’s time you check out this Hatboro classic. “Better things at better prices for all ages.” Just tell them you heard about them here, in the Uptight Suburbanite.
