Looks like a real hot spot has taken over Hatboro. Its name is Philly Philly.

I mentioned this dynamo of an eatery last month in our featured column “Heard Around.” This month I did my tasting and was not disappointed. From the moment you enter its big doors you can feel the city vibe.

Owner, Sal DiMaggio is the brains and brawn behind this undertaking. Located in the center of Hatboro on York Road, it fills street level space of one of Hatboro’s newest hip apartment buildings, Milliner Lofts. So fun!! Terrific food, plenty of seating and a soon-to-open full service bar, Philly Philly is the kind of restaurant a walking town thrives on. And there’s some terrific outdoor seating also!!

My sidekick and I enjoyed a sampling that crossed the menu. Known for their cheesesteaks, Sal recommended the cheeseteak with Cooper cheese on a seeded roll. OMG! The cheese was gooey, the meat was chopped and the roll was crisp to perfection. Fries on the side….I could have had a meal of Sal’s fries alone. Not thin or skinny, these fries were just the way I like them…a little too much!! LOL!!

We ordered the Hot Honey Burger that’s a customer favorite. I know why!! Rosie, Sal’s wife, recommended we use the hot honey as a dipping sauce on the side. She thought it could be too spicey. A huge burger topped with Cooper Sharp, bacon, onion and lettuce, and the hot honey, if you like…Delish. I enjoyed dipping my burger in the hot honey. It definitely had a kick. Even so, I recommend you try it…on the side.

We checked out the Vodka Burrata chicken cutlet covered with a vodka sauce and Burrata cheese. Yum! Two thinly sliced cutlets in a delicious roll, could definitely be shared… especially if you’re going to focus on the fries served with it! LOL!!

I had been staring at the picture on the wall, my mouth drooling, I said to my partner we HAVE to try the Chicken Bacon Fries. (If you didn’t know before, you know NOW! I’m a sucker for good fries!!) This dish could be your meal and even then should be shared. It’s a hefty portion that has all your favorites: chicken, fries, bacon and ranch dressing.

YES, we had a lot of food. Most of it went home for lunch the next work day. But we definitely enjoyed tasting everything….we even ordered a milkshake just to finish off our meal. It did, finish off our meal! Sal also serves Philadelphia Water Ice if you’re making a stop along your walk on York Road…or if you have room after dinner. Very refreshing. A great treat for the kids when you’re walking York Road.

I noticed some diners enjoying a wrap. Like the dishes we enjoyed, the wraps were hefty and solid. I think I’ll try a wrap next visit. (Yes, there will be another visit. There’s a Buy-1-Wrap-Get-2-Special on Wednesdays.)

The menu is filled with traditional hoagies, wings, munchies including onion rings, steak egg rolls, fried mozz and more. There’s a whole roster of different kinds of steaks, wit or witout? They’re all a specialty for Philly Philly. And yes, they have Philly Philly salads if you’re watching your carbs.

This is a fun place. No white tablecloths, but comfy seats and tables, just really good food, and a lot of it. You’ll be taking home a doggy bag. And while you’re there you might see the real person who runs the show at Philly Philly, Sal and Rosie’s almost 2½ year old daughter, Sofia. She likes to make friends so be prepared for a hello or two.

Philly Philly is open for lunch and their specials are real bargains. Sandwich, fries and drink, I think cost me about $14… and the sandwich was too large for one sitting… They also have daily specials….call or check out their board on the wall.

Oh, yeh, Sal has a loyalty program. Every time you purchase something you get a certain number of credits towards a future purchase. Accumulate credits and who knows when you can treat someone else to a Philly Philly Steak Wit or Witout!

I really enjoyed my visit to Philly Philly. Sure, the food was great, but the vibe really took me back to when I lived in the city. Check it out. Go with friends and enjoy some conversation with some good food. And please tell Sal you heard about him here, between our covers. He’s got a great smile while working his restaurant!!
