GET ORGANIZED FOR A SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL YEAR

This month some of us will be very busy with the start of a new school term. This time of year I received a lot of calls and emails from people who want to get organized before the start of the new school term.

Here are some tips for A Better Space that you can use now and throughout the school year.

1. Create a zone in your home for a family calendar and drop box for incoming and outgoing paperwork. Many families use a portion of the kitchen or other central location that is easily accessible.

2. Add a storage solution by the doorway for book bags, shoes, jackets/coats, sports equipment, etc. that tends to pile up right at the entryway. Whether it’s your front door or entrance from your garage, keep that zone clear and organized with hooks, baskets and/or shelving.

3. Create a computer station and homework area. You can create a highly efficient, space-saving zone which includes a desk surface and storage for supplies.

4. Use shelving above the desk zone on the wall to store baskets for excess school supplies and magazine holders for designated paperwork, etc. Be creative. Purchase fun or colorful baskets and label the containers for easy access.

5. Customize solutions that work best for each of your children. Each child learns differently and has certain solutions that work for them. Talk to your child to see what they would like in their homework zone to entice them to spend more time there.
