I was starving and bored. I couldn’t wait for warm weather. All month I had been thinking of nothing but food and shopping. So, the minute I was released from Doylestown Hospital, a great hospital if you’re sick, I started thinking about food and shopping.

Start your engines… here we go.

Olive Garden Restaurant in Willow Grove has a great deal for early diners Monday through Thursday. When we were last there, you could get a 3-course meal, including their great never-ending salad, for under ten bucks. Go later in the day and the price is almost double. And when you’re finished, if you can still move, check out the shopping in the Willow Grove Mall.

We ended up shopping at Bed, Bath and Beyond and purchased much needed items for our home. This big box store is spectacular. Their selection, assortment, choices, whatever…. just can’t be beat. They have a gigantic back-up inventory on almost every item and what they don’t have in the store they will order on the spot through the internet. Their prices, with their twenty percent coupons, are great and help is both prepared and eager to please. Thumbs up!!

Emiliano’s is a little husband and wife pizza place in Warminster on York Road. They’ve got another location in Willow Grove on Old York Road. They have a good selection of the normal “stuff” like steak sandwiches, hoagies, fries, etc…. but there is NOTHING NORMAL about their pizza. Available with regular crust or thin crust…. Mama Mia! It’s great. We get the thin crust, well done. If you love pizza, you’re gonna love Emiliano’s.

Are restaurant menus getting hard to read? Let me recommend a visit to Philly Vision Care on Bustleton Avenue for an eye exam and new glasses. Allan Spear is the owner of three locations. We go back a long time when I was involved in the optical industry… some thirty years ago. He has a terrific selection of frames and carries just about every new lens that’s available. He’s always been able to help me out with my very specific vision needs.

P.S. His prices are ridiculously cheap! Note, I didn’t say reasonable or competitive. I said “cheap.” Two pair of glasses AND an eye exam for under fifty bucks in today’s world is nothing less than a bargain dear readers!!

If you’re looking for a new set of wheels, think about visiting O’Neil Buick/GMC on Street Road in Warminster. Our son purchased a new car there last year and he is still bragging about their service.

Linda and I decided it was time to trade in our ten-year old Chrysler Cruiser for “new wheels” so we headed over to O’Neil to look at the Acadia. We really loved the SUV and were stunned by the terrific price they quoted. We went to pick up the car and fully expected them to say there was an error. But no error, and we drove off with a real bargain. P.S. It’s a great vehicle that seats seven. I told my son we could handle another grandchild!!

Rococo, The Store for Men, is in the Redwood Shopping Center on Second Street Pike in Southampton. It’s where to go for tuxedos and more. If you have a wedding, bar or bat mitzvah, prom or divorce… whatever… this is the place. They’re currently running a deal for under one hundred dollars, you get the whole package for your special evening attire. No switcheroos or games. I have used their services repeatedly and have never been disappointed. Richie, Jennifer and I are old friends. They will do you fine.

By the way, while you’re there shopping “formal,” take a look at their unbelievable selection of casual clothing. You won’t get two pair of slacks and a free belt for twenty bucks, but you will get beautifully designed shirts, slacks, jackets and more in the finest of fabrics. Richie carries all sizes and has always had clothing for me regardless where my weight is at the moment. Tell them I said hello!

I have a confession. I really like Burger King. I stop at their store on Street Road and pick up pancakes to enjoy in the office every now and then. Talk about bargains, 89 cents!! I have no idea how they can sell them so cheaply. I’m not complaining… It’s not a five star establishment, but it’s a good fast food pit stop with lots of choices served in a very clean, appealing environment.

One last restaurant I want to mention… The Red Lion Diner on Easton Road at County Line is great! Gus and his brother, George, are back!! They sold the diner and retired last year only to return recently after the business dropped dramatically under what was its new ownership. Everyone seems happy to have the two brothers back at the helm of this popular diner…. The place is packed!!!

If you haven’t been there, their menu is huge. The selections are extensive and portions are humongous. They’re also priced very fairly. And they keep the place spotless… what more could you want? This is the best. Welcome back Gus and George.
