This month we checked out Hatboro’s Silvio’s Deli, a local establishment that’s been serving the area for years. Under the newish ownership of Tara and George Tsaketas, this deli is serving soup-to-nuts AND dessert almost every day. And it’s all good if you trust our tastings!!LOL!!
Our visit involved a LOT of food.    As the deli doesn’t have inside seating we went to Michele’s houseand covered her table with Silvio’s masterpieces. Pizza, sandwiches, calzone, hoagies, fries, etc., our eyes were clearly bigger than our stomachs.

We started with a white veggie pizza. Covered with fresh veggies, it was perfect. The crust not too heavy to over power the veggies. We didn’t feel like we were eating dough. We were definitely enjoying a delicious pizza. Our spinach calzone gave me a smile. I love spinach so was really happy when I opened the calzone and the spinach and ricotta-mozzarella filling spilled out of the wrapped dough. Easy to eat, again, not real doughy. It was accompanied with a tasty red sauce on the side. Wonderful for dipping the calzone and even some of our sandwiches,

The Harper: A signature hoagie named after a niece, was layered with turkey, tomato, bacon and cheese. The Mazzy Special: Named after Tara’s and George’s daughter, was made with a homemade chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella and vodka sauce. Both hoagies are part of a group of Signature Specialties at Silvio’s. Anything with their chicken cutlet is a customer favorite. And on Wednesdays their roast pork sandwich is a looked-for weekly special.

We had to check out their cheese steak hoagie. Hefty, with lettuce, tomato, fried onions and the always popular Cooper Sharp cheese, do you really need to hear how delicious this was?! It WAS!!!    Dipped in the sauce we had took it over the top!

I need to mention the bread Silvio’s uses. So good. Our sandwiches were even better because of the seeded rolls. Does that mean we’ve been converted to Cooper Sharp and seeded rolls? I don’t know. But I do know the Silvio’s Deli-taste took our tastebuds soaring with the cheese and rolls they use. P.S. We had a lot of leftovers and froze most for later. When retrieved from the freezer and warmed up to finish, the dough returned to its crisp texture and light taste. It was as though our “veritable feast” had just been picked up at the Deli.

Finally, we HAD to have dessert. Tara and George have introduced a really special ice cream corner adjacent to the Deli. We treated ourselves to a flight of ice cream. OMG what a treat! Yeh, we were COMPLETELY full, but dessert is required for these reviews. You know that!! Our flight included three scoops of ice cream: Vanilla, Vanilla with Peanut Butter and Cappuccino Crunch. The Cappuccino was mildly chocolate with yummy crunchies. This may have been my favorite. But when dipped in the accompanying hot fudge, EVERY ice cream flavor was my favorite. I thought the idea of an ice cream flight was fun to share. And it was!!

There are a lot a special things happening at Silvio’s.    Along with some other local businesses, they offer a family movie night in Hatboro. They also collect toys for children during this season….But most important, I think, is what they call “The Pay It Forward Wall.” People who come into the Deli can leave “gift” money for people to use for a sandwich, coffee, pizza, or anything at Silvio’s. What a wonderful idea! A needy veteran, child, hungry adult, anyone who needs some help, can turn to this wall, reach out and get the help that could make their day easier.

Silvio’s Deli is terrific option for bringing food home. You can pick up wings, salads, burgers, wraps, even deli meats and cheese sliced by the pound. You can also bring home their delicious rolls. And don’t forget they can cater that holiday meal or football gang you’re entertaining. With plenty of parking, you’ll be able to load up your car easily. LOL!!

We had a great time enjoying Silvio’s best. We look forward to doing our “veritable feast” again. Yum! But you can be certain we won’t forget dessert. Their ice cream is for sure the icing on the meal!!! Enjoy!!
