Fall Back in Love With Your Home

This month, Audrey Cupo, Residential Professional Organizer, is here to provide helpful tips to save you time by getting organized for Summer.

Summer can be a wonderfully lazy time of the year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be productive at the same time. Many people want to get organized before the school term ends and their children are home for the summer. Many Dads want to create their “man cave” in their garage with an organized system for finding everything they need.
It’s a perfect time to look for time-saving options you can take advantage of this Summer to make your life easier and more relaxing. After all, isn’t that what Summer is all about?

Here are a few examples to help you get organized for Summer:

1. Plan your dinner first thing in the morning. Make it a crock pot or grill meal. Defrost your meat in the refrigerator overnight. Get your vegetables washed and ready early in the morning. Better still, cut and clean them when you return from the grocery store or farmer’s market. Have your dessert planned — make something cool and fresh. For example, fruit, pudding, Jello or a simple scoop of ice cream.

2. Pre-cook or pick up a rotisserie chicken and use it for dinner and the leftovers for lunch during the week. This will save you lots of time.

3. Do your laundry in the morning before the heat of the day sets in. Dryers create heat and adds to the warmth in your home. If you can, hang clothes outside to air dry.

4. Use bath towels a few time before washing them. Have each person keep their towel for several uses, if possible. Designate a different color for each family member and put hooks on the back of bathroom doors for them to dry. If you have a pool, put the towels over a railing or portable drying rack to dry and use again.

5. Have a picnic dinner. Sit outside and have sandwiches. Serve quick-to-prepare items like fruit salad, pre-made potato salad, etc. Create a different theme each time to keep it interesting. If the weather is inclement, have a picnic in the family room. It’s the “being together” part that is important. Just have fun!

6. Enjoy not having plans. Sleep later and just enjoy the day. Read or work on crafts. When you make your schedule for the week, leave a day or a portion of a day open, just to enjoy.

Use your imagination to create other ways to save time so you can enjoy your Summer.
