Out & About With Linda – March 2026
This was what they call “a spur of the moment” stop.
Driving down York Road towards Hatboro, on my right, I saw the sign for LUHV Vegan Bistro. If you know, you know, LUHV is our area’s key outpost for the best of vegan… soup, sandwiches, salads, desserts.
I was lucky. Just by chance, owner Silvio Lucci was in the shop. Full of vim and vigor, her enthusiasm for and commitment to her vegan passion is contagious.
I wasn’t really familiar with the whole vegan-thing until she shared how her family arrived at becoming vegans. She was ill, chef-husband Daniel pursued healthful alternatives for his wife, and this family of meat eaters turned to vegetables and other protein-heavy organic foods as the solution to good health. It worked! And it worked so good, that they decided to go vegan “full Monty,” personally and professionally.
It’s hard to believe that everything in LUHV is made only with veggies, legumes, and beans. Silvio directed me through my tasting. Fortunately, vegetables do not scare me. Raw fish does!! LOL! She insisted I get the Italian hoagie. Yup! She said it was a Philly favorite. And I know why: it tastes JUST LIKE a Philadelphia hoagie. It felt a bit “weird.” Forgive me. But I loved it!
Then I tasted their “tuna fish.” Again, not tuna, but chickpeas and lentils, etc. Combined at home with lettuce and tomato, I liked it. No fishy taste… a little different, but definitely a tasty and satisfying replacement for a tuna fish alternative.
LUHV always has hot soups cooking. The Energy Soup and the Vegetable Soup was delicious and satisfying, especially on this winter day. And it’s a quick pick-up on the York Road corridor. P.S. LUHV has a Kosher certification. You’ll just need to confirm that it’s a certification you abide by.
There is some seating inside. A bit more outside when warmer weather allows. They’re prepared for takeout for little things and the bigger things. Pick-up a dinner. Arrange for a catered meal. LUHV has you covered if you require a vegan menu. It’s definitely worth considering maybe one or two days a week will get you towards a healthier lifestyle.
FYI. Check the frozen food sections of some of your favorite supermarkets. You can find LUHV products at Whole Foods, Wegmans and Tanners Market. And if you’re downtown at the Reading Terminal you can find them there. You can even find them in the Hudson kiosks at the airport!! Hey! It’s all about LUHV, eating healthy and staying healthy. Try it. You might like it. Conveniently located on York Road in Hatboro. Just tell them you heard about them here between the covers of the Uptight Suburbanite.
I had heard through the grapevine that there was this neat community convenience store along Buck Road in Southampton. Not just a convenience store, but a special spot with the area’s BEST bagels Liam’s Market & Bagels. Sounded like I needed to check this out!!
Open early in the morning, Liam’s Market & Bagels specializes in New York bagels. How? Well, the owner, Alex Trier, travels to New York every week, brings back the New York-made dough and finishes the process making these wonderfully chewy, hefty bagels. If you know a New York bagel you’ll recognize his bagels!! You can top them with a delicious “shmear,” get a delicious coffee from the coffee corner and be on your way.
I stopped in and ordered an everything bagel “shmeared” with lox cream cheese. I also checked out a plain bagel with veggie cream cheese to eat later. Delicious all the way around. My partner really enjoyed her plain bagel with the maple-bacon cream cheese. We both helped ourselves at the coffee station. You can get some trending flavors from the huge community Keurig. Perfect.
I picked up a crumb cake quarter. Moist and hefty, I enjoyed nibbling it throughout the day sliced. P.S. Breakfast sandwiches
are available, sides of whitefish salad, lox and omelets can be ordered. Want bagels to take home? Order ahead to get your half or whole dozen.
Caught at home without water or maybe some other kind of last minute supply? Need a baked good for late night company? Liam’s can bail you out with some delicious New York specialties. That’s what this community store does. They even have some video games for the kids to play. Goes well with the ice cream favorites available!!
Terry, the very helpful hostess, made sure to give us a sample of the bagel chips that had just been finished. Very crispy and very tasty, add a creamy something on top and you have a great little snack…
Liam’s Market & Bagels is the perfect bagel stop on your way home, to the office or anywhere. Open until 8pm, it’s spacious and welcoming, and on the main drag of Southampton’s Buck Road. Check it out and remember to tell them you read about them in the Uptight Suburbanite. Have fun!!
