Out & About with Linda
Now that school has started, we’re back to our busy routines of after school activities, club meetings and all that “stuff” that cuts into our dinner time.
Who has time to start prepping dinner after a football practice or band practice? Our prepping might not start until 7pm or so. too late for me!!!
Our reading area is blessed with some terrific options to help us through this crazy time efficiently and affordably. One of our
favorites is Don Giovanni’s Classic Bakery in Feasterville. Much more than a bakery, they have some great family meals and entree dinners ready at the order. Delicious, hot and special, they can help ease the frenzy of feeding the family after a day of school, projects and practices.
Have you ever seen a 2-foot cheesesteak? OMG it is BIG. Not just long, but STUFFED with the most delicious meat and cheese. One of Don Giovanni’s Big Deal meals, it comes with a hefty serving of fries and a 2-liter soda. AND, they provide ALL the top- pings for your favorite steak sandwich including hot and sweet peppers, chopped onions, pickles, mushrooms, ketsup, mayo. Fun and satisfying, this is a real life saver when you’re running late or early!! LOL! Just have a sharp knife handy to start slicing.
I checked out their Mediterranean Pizza. Covered with red peppers, green peppers, black olives, spinach and onions, we enjoyed this pizza on day two. It came out of the oven deliciously toasty. The crust was thin and crunchy. Perfect for my taste! Not to be out done was the rice ball and eggplant rollatini. HUGE describes the rice ball. Chopped meat encased in fluffy mashed potatoes, crunchy on the outside, it definitely could be shared by two. Both could be served as easy accompaniments with the pizza.
And we also checked out the eggplant lasagna. Again, very shareable. Filled with layers of ricotta and eggplant, it towers easily over the pizza any pizza!!!!
Just to be safe we ordered what is sure to be a favorite on almost any table: Chicken Parmesean. This cutlet is PURE white meat chicken breast. Solid, firm and prepared to perfection, this portion could satisfy two. Of course, if one of these people is a starving football player you might have to reconsider sharing! Served with your choice of pasta, you can also choose your preferred salad. We ordered the Caesar Salad and loved the dressing. P.S. The salad was crisp and fresh.
The best part is that all this and more is just a phone call away. Easy-P-Z. Make that call and you can still have good food on the table without sweating too much. AND, you might still be able to have that important family conversation over your mealtime dinner. Wouldn’t it be nice to find out how everyone’s day went?! Only, of course, if your kids would talk!! LOL!
So, check it out. Don Giovanni’s also has Classic Family Meal Deals. Pasta, Lasagna, Chicken Marsala and more. Debbie and her crew are here to make your life not only delicious but easier. Tell her we sent you. It will give her a smile, and me too. Yum!
Well, it took all summer, but I finally checked out Jamison Ice Cream on York Road in Jamison. Quaint, with easy parking, you can now enjoy Nina’s Ice Cream and Waffles locally. Thanks to the Talati family, you don’t have to travel to Peddler’s Village to enjoy this regional favorite.
I stopped in to see what all the ‘talk” was about. Great ice cream, “flights” available, Belgium waffles, gluten free. Hey, my kind of place! I ordered the Double Espresso Crunch with small bites: translated, that’s a scoop of ice cream with these delicious bites of the Belgium Waffles in a cup. Very tasty. I liked how the ice cream got a little warm over the freshly baked waffle bites. It was an interesting option.
I did a little sampling while there of course!! The Crack Coffee was coffee ice cream with chocolate covered saltines. Very new for me and the chocolate “crack” was definitely “crackling”! Nikita, the owner, told me the flavors are rotated as the buckets empty. There seemed to be quite a few coffee or espresso flavored ice creams available. She commented that a Mixed Berry was about to be placed in the display case.
Outside seating is available. A family of five stopped in as I was leaving. First time visitors. I noticed their New York license plate, so I’m thinking Jamison Ice Cream was recommended. I saw them seated outside hovering around their ice cream treats.
I can recommend this convenient little stop. especially if you’re hankering for a delicious Beligium Waffle with your ice cream.
They’re made to order and pretty special. Have fun!!
