Out & About with Linda
Ok, I admit it, I like Ollie’s. I like all the “stuff,” especially the books, and usually walk out with a bunch of “stuff” I don’t really need. Perhaps you’ve done the same. But the experience is filled with fun, and for me, I think “shopping” is about the fun. (Unless of course, I’m going food shopping. That is not fun for me!!!)
Our reading area has been blessed with another “fun” site for shopping and I paid a visit that lasted much longer than expected. Ocean State Job Lot, on Street Road in Warminster, is a BIG store. It’s got everything!!! Clothing, food, pet “stuff,” toys and more. If you have a pool, get yourself to Ocean State Job Lot because they are loaded with seasonal items for your pool and all outdoor summer activities. That includes outdoor furniture!
I spent a lot of time in their food section and was able to load up with neat drinks, cookies and specialty items that I haven’t seen elsewhere. And yes, did I say that all of these products are discounted?!
It’s a fun store. And I believe they have a special savings program if you’re a frequent shopper. You can check that out when you visit. And we hope you will. Just remember to allow some time to peruse the aisles… there are many and you won’t want to miss anything, or the “fun”!
Friends of mine took me to shop a secret “stash” of theirs in Jenkintown. Second Chances Shoppe is a thrift shop extraordinaire. Great clothes, both designer and non-designer, shoes, some china, jewelry… it’s packed with goodies that you’ll want to bring home. You can try things on at leisure and get assistance for the asking. A bit hidden on Leedom Street, it’s well worth the “find.” Try not to be discouraged by parking. There is off-street parking and some community lots nearby. Again, you’ll be happy you made the effort. And their sales benefit the Women’s Center of Montgomery County. So, you can buy something pretty while doing something good!!! P.S. I walked out with a wonderful sweater/top, just $15!!! AND a really unique, vintage Davis & Whiting bracelet…. just $50. (Hoping this little review doesn’t ruin it for my friends!!!)
If you’re traveling in the area of Jenkintown, travel a bit further down the road to Creekside Market and Tap. Talk about “fun!” Located adjacent to the train station in Elkins Park on High School Road, this Market aspires to become like a Reading Terminal Market. There are a variety of vendors under one roof… organic foods, Mediterranean specialties, hand crafted beer, elevated prepared food using local ingredients, Pennsylvania-made wine and more. The space is large and encourages dining in or taking out.
On Saturday evenings the place is hopping. Live music, food and drink, you can enjoy a terrific date night starting at 7pm. Thursday is Trivia Night starting at 7pm… again, food, fun and beer flow until the night is over. And if you go on Saturday, during the day, you’ll see some pop-up vendors who stop by and visit. Their fresh flowers and handmade soaps and creams can make great presents!
And there’s plenty of parking. You can park on the street or go across the street to the train station where parking is free right now. Very convenient, especially if you visit some of the other stores in this friendly enclave.
I checked out a little boutique, SASS & STYLE. Colorful, cheery, unique and affordable, I had fun touching and feeling the dresses, tops, etc. I walked out with a number of uniquely designed socks. Multiple colors, covered in pearls… I gave some to my sister and she gave me a smile!! P.S. My granddaughter approves and has already requested duplicates in her size. Not sure SASS & STYLE has them, but this grandmother is sure to ask!!
Check it out. A little funky, with fashions for young and old, there’s just enough “stuff” to keep your interest.
SASS & STYLE is just that… a boutique filled with
sass and style.
So that does it for June. I’m off to another area for July and August… looking for fun. I think I found it for June. Here’s hoping I can do the same in July or August.
