You see I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I’m one of those people who get a an ache and figure it will clear up without issue. Fortunately it usually does. But not this time. This time, my left side pain did not disappear and definitely impacted my “get-up-and-go.” When I cancelled an outing with my grandkids I knew this was a pain that needed attention.

A visit to my family doctor, after the proverbial MRI, revealed I need hip surgery!! Oiy! How fortunate I’ve been to have escaped what I call a “medical event” besides delivering our son. But hip surgery?! So, as I wait for my soon-to-occur surgery I have restricted my activities working in the office reduced hours and doing what I can at home. After all, the doctors all warned that while I wait for my surgery I should not fall. Ok, I get it. Be mindful. And that’s what’s happening. I’m hobbling along at turtle speed, eyes on the cane and ground, following ALL the doctors’ orders! LOL!!! But still finding therapeutic relief in working and sharing about the wonderful events ahead in our greater community.

First off, the Bristol Riverside Theater (BRT) has opened it’s 2025/2026 season filled with drama and music. You can find informa- tion about their entire year’s schedule on page 29. Their performances get your heart soaring. And it’s so easy to enjoy locally!! If you haven’t been, use this month of October to share the joy of the Warminster Symphony Orchestra. Last year I wrote about my visit to the Bucks Count Antique Fair. They’re convening again on November 5. This is the annual gath- ering of those antique businesses in Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. If you’re looking for something in particular, or just interested in seeing antique “stuff,” this is a good venue to visit. Its size is not overwhelming, the exhibitors have time to chat and may- be share a bit about the piece you’re interested in, and prices might be more negotiable than those in a larger antique environment.

I purchased some interesting pieces last year. A book of letters from Abraham Lincoln caught my eye. It had some old newspaper clippings about the theater where he had been assassinated…the original owner of the book left those stuck between the pages. This became a good gift for my brother. And I found these really neat life style pamphlets from the 40’s and 50’s which reflected that period so well…a period when women wore dresses to cook dinner, etc.! They were a hit with my sister-in-law.

If you’re looking for some historical stimulation, or want to visit a particular time period, this Fair is the place to go. By the way, it might be an interesting stop with your children. There are some great toys on exhibit that will definitely peak their interest. And music buffs will do well to visit the rooms filled with sheet music. You can find more on page 25. This Antique Fair will not disappoint.

So, that’s its for now. Here’s hoping I actually get “Out & About” next month. This month you’re doing the travelling. Have fun and enjoy see you in November, a lot more mobile!!
