THE JOY OF ORGANIZED TOYS
by Audrey Cupo, Professional Organizer
Now that the kids have returned to school, it’s time to focus on other ways to get your kids organized.
Lately, I have had several projects involving organizing kids’ toys and play areas which has prompted me to write on this subject.
If you are a parent or even a grandparent, you know how quickly toys can take over the house. They tend to pile up in the living room, dining room, kitchen, bedrooms, garage and basement.
If your home is overrun with toys, it can feel overwhelming. You look around and all you see is toys, everywhere!
Here are a few suggestions to help:
- Evaluate the type of toys your child has. Are they still age appropriate? Are they still being played with?
- Select storage solutions that meet your needs. Determine what type of toys you need to store before you go to the store. Size matters. Use the correct size container for the amount of items to be stored. Store like things together.
- Use clearly marked containers. Use picture labels for younger children and large print labels for older children. Clip art is a great tool for finding the right picture.
- Use large storage options. This is a great way to container larger toys and groups of larger plastic containers. A pantry cabinet is a great way to control toy clutter behind closed doors.
- Review on a regular basis. Toys tend to come in and not go out. Do a review prior to your child’s birthday and prior to holidays to make room for new toys. Teach your child the joy of giving to others by donating to a local hospital, thrift store or organization that accepts used toys.
If you are feeling overwhelmed with the idea of getting those toys under control, don’t hesitate to contact A BETTER SPACE. Remember, no matter how young or old your children are, they can learn how to get and stay organized. Audrey can show you how!
Thank you.
