More Travels With Allen

Let me be honest, my travels this month have been a bit curtailed. With the cold weather, my time has been spent on the phone catching up with clients and doing what we call “prospecting.” Regardless, I was able to visit some old haunts and check out something new (thanks to my better half!)

There’s a great little restaurant on Bustleton Avenue near Byberry in the Somerton part of Philadelphia called La Casa Di Lucia. Talk about neighborhood spots – this is it. Stop by on a Thursday night and you’ll have your traditional performer singing to the tunes of Frank Sinatra or doing those melodies that take you back to the good old times. The bar is filled with people who know your name… and food that will make your smile.

We eat there when we’re looking for real Italian bread and a perfect pasta or parmesan-something. Your entrées come with soup or salad and they
have early birds or “later-birds” that will not break the bank. They also serve fresh fish of the day. It’s a fun spot that will take you back to your old haunts in South Philly without the drive and problem
parking!!!

In Warrington, on Easton Road, there’s a small restaurant that used to be a gas station… yep, you heard me. We hadn’t been there in awhile but decided to stop in recently. Alessio’s Seafood Grille & Italian Restaurant is a terrific little gem that serves delicious fish, pasta, veal, etc…. and it’s a BYOB. They make the BEST salads that are filled with the best ingredients depending on what you choose. You cannot pick a bad salad. Each one is a meal in itself and can be shared. If it’s just you and your dining partner…. there’s your meal. (Don’t forget the wine.) If it’s a table of four – there’s your dinner salad for four. We shared a salad with shrimp, scallops, crabmeat and greens with a delicious balsamic dressing. It was warm and delicious. We had forgotten how good it was. We followed our meal with lobster mac n’ cheese and an eggplant dish that was superb. We highly recommend this spot. It’s fun, delicious and neat… and yes, just like a gas station, the bathrooms are outside!!! I said Alessio’s is a fun spot.

LUHV Factory & Vegan Bistro opened up in Hatboro on York Road. Another small, cozy eatery, LUHV is a vegan’s dream-come-true. But you don’t have to be vegan to love their food! The make a scrumptious Energy Soup that really warms the cockles of your soul. Their daily menu includes sandwiches, soups, breads… Imagine a BLT that’s vegan! They have a wide range of sandwich offerings that can satisfy the carnivore in us all…. But there’s not a stitch of meat in anything. You can order on the phone for pick-ups or eat-in. They’re open through the week and from late morning to night. Don’t be put off by their lack of meat… Trust me. You just might LUHV it!
I do want to give a shout out to the folks at BQ Basement. They attended the recent Home Show in the Greater Philadelphia area and were given TV time with a local television station. We know Brian Quinn’s BQ Basement as one of our advertisers who addresses concerns vis à vis wet basements. They fix sagging floors, settling foundations and more, and insure the health and safety of anything “Basementy.” I’d say that’s pretty important. So, if you have any of those concerns where you live, give them a call… All Things Basementy is their Specialty.

That’s it for January. Hoping for a warmer February that will take me out of the office more and away from the phones. Stay tuned. March is around the corner and I can hear my car yearning to hit the highway again!
